Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Background Information

Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons diagnose, treat and manage the conditions, defects, and injuries of the face, jaws, mouth and teeth. After graduating with honors from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, Dr Heggland underwent seven additional years of surgery and anesthesia training. As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Heggland manages a wide variety of problems relating to the mouth, teeth and facial region. Dr. Heggland practices a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with expertise ranging from outpatient anesthesia, dental implant surgery and wisdom tooth removal to corrective jaw surgery. This also includes techniques designed to rebuild jaw bone structure with minimal surgical intervention and optimal patient comfort. In addition, he diagnoses and treats facial injuries, fractures of the facial bones, and facial pain.

Surgical Staff

The surgical team at Alpine OMS are experienced, certified surgical assistants, who assist in administration of anesthesia and surgery, and in patient monitoring during anesthesia, surgery, and post-operative recovery in our state-of-the-art office-based surgery center. Patients are continuously monitored with ECG (heart monitor), blood pressure, and pulse oximetry monitoring (blood oxygen level) during and after surgery by the surgical team. To insure that our patients receive only the highest level of care delivered in the safest possible setting we maintain rigorous certifications in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Additionally, all staff are informed administrative personnel, well-versed in the logistics of your medical and dental insurance policies.
